Everyone is crazy about the upcoming Deftones Concert. So out of curiosity I decided to listen to some of their music. It was kinda depressing. It's like the type of music that makes you feel angry and depressed after listening to it for a while. I guess it's just a matter of taste, but I'm finding it difficult listening to their songs. I guess it could grow on me after a while just like when I first started listening to L'arc-e-ciel. But I don't think feeling angry and depressed is how I'd like start my year.

My son who is 20 now, and has been listening to the Deftones for many years now, probably six or more,and is currently battling depression. And before anyone reads this the wrong way, I'm not blaming the Deftones for my sons depression. I like a few of their songs myself. We even went to see them together about a year ago.
My point is I wonder if listening to bands such as the deftones and other bands that play similar "depressive lyrics" can be harmful to a person that lives with depression or other emotional/mental health issues?
He listens to them for many hours out of the day. Not many other bands exist in his world, it's all about the deftones to a point of obsessiveness.
That is what lead me to google "deftones depressive" which brought me here.
I know we listen to music that matches our mood, but I think it can be harmful in these instances, especially when our younger generation is listening to music for hours each day. It doesn't affect everyone or the healthy, but I do feel that people who battle certain emotional or mental health issues, it can make their conditions even worse or even more difficult to deal with.
I am 32 years old. Been listening to deftones for about 20 years or more. It unfluenced my teenage years, my Youth and i still listen to it now. Ive been to 12 live shows, i even sang with chino once.
I consider that deftones become what you feel at the moment. If im feeling happy, specialy with a lady Next to me, deftones give me this sexual vibe that keeps me floating and mesmerize a special feeling.
Bit when im down, yes, i agree with you, i stop listening for a couple months because it can influence my day in sad way because of any song with any memorie that stucked with it in my mind.
Its a love and hate thing what i feel about this band. And um talking about my favoritos band since i was 11/12 years old.
What sometimes can help os to stop listening for a while or as i do, create playlists for a particular moment, in the case of your som, some songs that would give him streangnt and be excited about life. If your son listens to deftones while enjoying the company of a sweet girl, i promisse it will be really healthy and a happy memorie for him. It depends, Alone= sadtones dating= sextones.
This is a very special unique band , but i understand what you meen because i felt that when i was 22 and struglling, while listening to deftones.
I hope he's OK now.
As for me i will go see them live again on July, and im now in my 30's. :)
Over 10 years later, I’m an 18 year old listening to sextape by deftones right now. When you guys were making these comments I was 5-6 years old. I googled ‘deftones making me depressed’ not because I’m blaming them for my depression but because the bittersweet vibe of a lot of their songs has the propensity to make me nostalgic and then spiral into a melancholic mood. I just wondered if anyone else felt the same.
