On becoming rich:

hahaha! I know, no one reads this blog so I'll take the risk of writing my personal thoughts. This is a blog afterall. Almost a year ago I decided to be rich. I haven't had much progress since. I started serious blogging but then I got tired and bored and eventually got suspended by google! It was depressing because that was also around the same time I lost a job I had for the past 3 years. It was a big blow to my finances. Eventually I had to get new jobs and tried attending seminars and learn new things that could earn me some money.
So another year is at hand, so let's see how well I fare with life this coming 2011!
Get ready to get rich!

Stream-ing along...

So, after getting kicked out of Convergys, I've finally got a new job with Stream Global services under Clearwire account. And it just so happen that I just passed what seemed like a half-baked training. So now I officially begin a full-time shift taking calls and helping people out with their wireless broadband service. It'll take some time gettign sued to since It's less troubleshooting and more billing, but I'm glad training is over. My co-trainees were nice but our relationship isn't as fun as it was back in Convergys. Honestly I really miss those people. But this is where I am now and I'll just have to make the best out of it.

Farewell uverse!

After all the pains and great times spent learning the ropes of a new account, I have been weighed and have been found wanting.
I have no regrets. I gave it my all, made great friends and did the job as best as I can. I guess this is where it all ends.

Last night was the last night for Transition. I was calm. I was all set for another day of taking calls when Mijca, our Transition Advocate (TA- something like our supervisor), came in the room and told me to meet up with TL miles, our Team lead for transition.

To make the long story short, out of 200 something calls that I've taken in 2 weeks, 3 of them were selected randomly and they have been found failing to the standards of AT&T U-verse. Too bad eh?

So now I guess I'll be bumming around for a few more days. Jobless again and no fixed income. And with my bday coming up, this isn't an easy situation to take. I promised myself not be poor again on my bday or during Christmas. A year has passed but it sure seems that not much has changed. My debt hasn't decreased and whatever I've learned during the year still got me nowhere... i wonder what I'm doing wrong.

I guess that's it for today. I have the whole day tomorrow to get the new website in running condition. Then on Monday I have to do my clearance, get my last salary, then apply for a new account in Convergys,  or a new job with either Teleperformance or SM North. I guess making a resume will be part of the schedule as well.

Finding God...

We just finished training! It's fabulous! I'm going to start real work next week. Meeting new people is so cool. Making friends, learning new things, and earning money again. One month of being a bum makes you appreciate the things you took once for granted...

Despite all the good things happening to me right now, I've also come to realize that it's hard to find God in the places I've spent the most time in: The work place and cyber space...

Finding God at work.
I'm a married man. I'm happy with my wife, but the a callcenter is not the most condusive place when it comes to faithfulness in marriage. In just a few weeks I've already met several women who doesn't believe in the sanctity of marriage. I've met several married guys having an affair other women, and a few ladies who doesn't care if a guy is married or not. I've been invited to drinking session several times (which I declined of course). It's a place where you're too good if you don't smoke.Where looks are everything and swearing and cursing are natural. I can't say I care much for the business of other people but it's tough to find God in the workplace. Especially when I have work on Friday nights and possibly in the coming weeks work on Saturday mornings.
The only hope I can see is God is giving me an opportunity to save up money for me to invest and free myself from this financial prison of going to work and not having time for anything..

Finding God on the Internet
I've always had a hard time finding God in the internet. I've been making a career off the net for a few months now but because off the incredible amount of information online, so does the confusion and the diversion. There is so much that can take your mind off God. Facebook, Youtube, E-mail, blogs... but on the other hand , I realized how convenient learning about God has become. If making a relationship online got easier, why can't you make a relationship with God online, right? Hmm...
"Only when you seek will you be able to find.."
I tried seeking then. And I found that there are numbers of ministries uploading inspirational video online. Countless number of blogs sharing their inspiration and preaching God's message. It's amazing!

Finding God Everywhere
It's been said that God is everywhere. This characteristic of God is called omnipresence. Sometimes I feel that    God can't be found in some places like Bars, prison, or parties, but I was surprised that my most unforgettable experience in sharing what I know about the Bible is during a birthday party, in one of the most popular bars in metro manila. It was amazing.. At that time I realized you can share the gospel anywhere, even in the most unexpected of places..

CCT- Cleared, PST- Goodluck

After the most interesting Communications and Culture Training I had last week with my final score at 96%(don't tell anyone), We're now at Product Specific Training. And for an account that just came up in recent years there are so much to learn. 2 weeks is probably not enough time to know it all. We'll probably end up like most accounts, learning as we go on the floor. Convergys stands as the #4 out of 20 vendors for the AT&T U-Verse account. Because of that we'd like to maintain this standing and learn as much as we can, but there's the dreaded Berlitz Language Assessment test we had yesterday. This test is mostly based on luck because as they say, even good speakers can fail depending on the assessor of the test. The test is composed of conversational interview for 15 minutes and so if we fail we might have to go to another account. Macy's perhaps. But that's it. For the most part if I pass this information overload of a training, and pass transition then I'll have to maintain scores for a few months to get regular status then it'll be smooth sailing from there on. I hope to save enough money to pay off my debt and setup a business before I get tired or fired from Convergys. My transcript is another issue. So Goodluck to me and to my wavemates!

New job, new friends, and a new dog

Convergys
After a few short relaxing weeks I've got myself a job again and I'm off to training and gathering requirements.
I applied for Convergys since it's just in TechnoHub and it's closer to home. Unfortunately the training takes place all the way in Makati at the Insular Building. So that's twice the distance and kinda defeats the purpose why I chose Convergys in the first place. The pay isn't too bad though. I just need to figure out how to complete some of my requirements while I'm still bankrupt.

New Friends
It's fine though. I've met new friends whom I seem to get along well with so far. There are quite a number of females in this batch. That's quite something for a tech support account which is usually dominated by males. We also have a 56 year old guy. We cal him ART (short for Arturo) He used to be a Advertising Writer but he said the callcenter business pays more and he's all in it for the money. A very honest fellow.

The CCT trainer is also quite the character. ANTONIO EDUARDO ENPIANADO CHAVEZ sounds like a name out of a teletenovela but he's ahh... err.. a bit difficult to describe. He calls himself ANTHOS (w/c means Flower). Wears a trench-coat with his business attire. He looks gay at first but he does have a girlfriend. His favorite motto is "Life has no meaning.." and, on the first day, he entered the room carrying a coffin shaped box that has DEAD DOLLS written on it. This creeped us all out at first but the mood gets lighter as he starts to smile more often now and crack jokes every now and then.

New Dog
It's been a week now since the training started and I'm enjoying my rest day. I'm starting to miss the rest days. My nephew passed by the other day and gave us a puppy. It's of any breed that I know but his legs are bent outwards like a Bull dog and his fur resembles that of a German shepherd but the black areas are a bit gray. So i'll probably call him GRAY like the one from Fairy Tail. He's bigger than most puppies. I have to figure out how to take care of him though since I'm not a pet person but I don't want him to die like our last puppy, GOOGLE. A dead puppy is really hard on conscience. It's something I wouldn't want to happen again.

Out of work, not out of hope

Yes I'm jobless and not at a good time either. Whenever I resign I always had backup plans, this time I didn't. And I lost most of my income stream as well. Hayz! When the going gets tough, it pours. But being a bum makes one contemplate on things. It's very enlightening really. And during tough times you get to find out who your real friends are and those who are just all talk. I'm thankful to my previous experiences in college because poverty and financial binds are no longer new to me. I also got to thinking how tough life is and how overcoming tough situations like this makes a person stronger. You also get to realize how God's hand is always at work because though jobless, blessing just keep coming out of nowhere. Small miracles you may call them. I'm also reminded of my passion and realize my strengths and weaknesses. Overall I must say this entire experience is very enlightening. A baptism of fire is how I see it. I still wonder where all this will lead to, but I have a feeling it will be someplace that'll be really nice. Hehe!

DELL: The end draws near...

It's September already! Yes, the "-ber" months are upon us. And it seems somewhat appropriate that it's a rainy day today. As if in sync with the gloomy season, we were informed that Teletech won't be able to assimilate all of the Dell agent. They can take some in, but not all...So some people will be shoved to Verizon while those left will be left floating... They'll still be Teletech employees but NO WORK.. NO PAY... That actually sounds interesting. I've never been employed to a company that considers you an employee even if you're not working. That's cool. honestly several people I've talked to seem to be considering this option.
Me, I've started submitting Resumes to several companies just in case I become one of the floating (dead bodies? Haha!)
I made a really interesting resume whose layout I copied from a certain website. I'll post about it soon. I'll probably even make a blog about it.
So there, I guess if I'm one of the unfortunate dead bodies I'll have more time to blog and get my Adsense back! Hay naku!

Rain: Live in Manila

Rain is the few Korean artist that I know... Actually he's probably the only one. And he's coming to Manila! omigosh! Nah!  I'm not really a Rain fan. It's funny but I don't know any of the guy's song at all. I just know him from full house and that Ninja movie that I didn't get to watch either. But still I actually admire him. I guess it's because I heard his story of how he was rejected in auditions repeatedly when he was first starting out in his career because he wasn't good-looking enough. (Geesh!) and he never gave up though.  Look him now. One of Korea's biggest artist. Very inspiring success story. So it's nice that he's coming to Manila.

Details from http://www.mukamo.com/

Korean Singer Rain (Bi Rain) will be having a concert in Manila, Philippines on Sept. 11, 2010.

It will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds, 8PM with guest artist quintet boy band MBLAQ (Music Boys Live in Absolute Quality). Ticket prices range from 4500 pesos to 500 pesos and are available at SM Cinema Ticketbooths (02) 470-2222 and Ticketworld Reservations (02) 891-9999.

Losing Dell and Google at the same month!

Gee, when it rains it pours. Things like this just happen. One day it's same old boring thing, the next  day you'll get news that your account is being closed because of uncontrollable reasons. Geez!

Dell, for which I've worked for for the last 3 years, has finally decided not to renew it's contract with Teletech. Just like Kodak and Chase before, Dell will just be another memory for Teletech, Novaliches. R.I.P. DELL.

So what will become of the 130 something employees working for Dell. Well, Teletech has acquired a new account, T-mobile and will have job openings for more than 300 positions that will be available. We are asked to choose which account we'd prefer and then take qualifying exams and training for that account so that Teletech can assimilate us. This was terrible news for some but most of us actually look forward to this since we were all planning to resign anyway. Why not just move to a different account and enjoy the same pay and benefits like we had before?

My first choice is a Broadband/DSL account that caters to Australia. I think it'll be tough since I'm not so used to hearing the Australian accent. I chose it anyway since it was the morning shift because Australia is almost the same timezone in the Philippines. After 3 years of being a vampire, I've longed to sleep like a human again. So that's that.

As if a practical joke of fate, my Adsense account was suspended indefinitely for vague reasons! Geez, and I was scheduled to receive payment next month. So much for that. Now I have to start from scratch and work double to pay my debts.

They say you learn more from your failures than your successes. I guess I haven't been failing enough that's why I'm not yet very successful!

Last night was also my Mother-in-law's birthday. My mom gave her a nice water heater. I feel bad I couldn't give her anything though since I'm in a tight financial crunch right now.

So here's to a new start! Gambatte!

Sands of Boracay

So I spent the weekend in Boracay. It was my grandparent's Golden Anniversary and my uncles decided to take us all to Boracay for the celebration. It was my wife and kids' first time to ride a plane so it seeing their reactions during flight was priceless.

It was my first time in Boracay. I was sick the week before that. I'm wondering if I'll still have a job when I get back on thursday. Not coming to work for 2 weeks can give you a kind of foreboding feeling that you'll surely be fired. Anyway, I've got all my papers in check so just in case.

Boracay was everything I expected it to be. A resort Island, fine sand, lots of scantily clad foreign tourist, everything was expensive. Yup, everything it's everything I expected it to be. except for the mountains and hills. I  was actually expecting the island to be smaller and the airports in Caticlan to be bigger. Anyway, it was all good.

The celebration was terrific. Lots of tear jerking moments especially during the speeches. My mom cried a lot.        My kids were running everywhere and my wife got sunburnt. Hahaha! I didn't like to swim so I stayed out of the sun and the water most of the time. I wish I could've taken a dip at the pool at the Hotel we stayed on though.

We stayed for 3 nights in Alta Vista. It was a subdivision-like hotel. They had like a dozen buildings each with about 30 rooms. I've never seen a hotel setup that way. It was very interesting. It was setup on the highlands of Boracay and you could see the ocean from two directions. The Rooms were great and still looked new, unlike the older interiors of the some hotels in Manila.

The most interesting part of the entire trip was that I was great possibilities for business in that place. We interviewed some people and they said there was only like 2 months of off-peak time for the business and that  business in booming the whole-year round. I wonder if there's more profit in malls or in that island. I guess I'll have to look into that.

The beach was great too. I of course did not swim too much but I loved playing in the sand with my kids. It was also their first time in a beach. The view was breath taking. I saw some signs saying "It is illegal to take home the sand" What's up with that? Some of my uncles took some anyway. Before leaving, I thought to myself that Boracay would be an awesome place to live in. There are schools, there are houses for sales. Lots of opportunities to make a living. Everything you'll need to survive.

On the way home I found out that you can take a bus from Cubao all the way to Caliclan. I guess I'll be back to Boracay sooner than people expect. But the next time it might not be just for a vacation. Hehe!

I feel I'm getting too old.

I was having with my wife's classmate. He was an anime enthusiast like I was, and I was recruiting him to be a content writer in on of the blogs that manage. He's a great kid. We started talking about anime and all that cools stuff, then I told him my favorites live EVANGELION, MACROSS and BLEACH.. He's hear of bleach but was a bit clueless with Macross and Eva. I was surprised, because these two were supposed to be some of the most popular ones and are even legends in the anime industry having several sequels and remakes.

He then asked, "when were they shown?"

I thought for a bit and told him a rough estimate and told him sometime in the nineties..

His answer surprised me. "Maybe I was too young when it came out.."

I was shocked. It was just like yesterday when I started enjoying these shows. I then realizes it's already .2010. The kid was just 16 years old so he was probably in pre-school when those shows came out. I was like, Whoa!

I then came to the realization that the anime enthusiasts of today are being exposed to a different style of animation. I always thought anime was for all ages, but right there and then I suddenly felt a generation gap. Man I'm getting too old. There's a surplus of anime nowadays. An explosion of media that keeps piling up every season. Once in a while an anime with a good story will come up and will become the new craze like Macross and Eva was.

I bet this is what the fans of VoltesV and 80's anime felt like when they approached the 90's with Ghost Fighter and Flame of Recca. I'm going all nostalgic again.Hahaha!

A heart -warming Father's Day story.

A man came home from
work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old
son waiting for him at the door.
SON: "Daddy, may I ask you a question?"

DAD: "Yeah sure, what is it?"

SON: "Daddy, how much do you make an hour?"

DAD: "That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?"

SON: "I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?"
DAD: "If you must know, I make $100 an hour."
SON: "Oh! (With his head down).
SON: "Daddy, may I please borrow $50?"

The father was furious.

DAD: "If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behavior."

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $ 50 and he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.

DAD: "Are you asleep, son?"

SON: "No daddy, I'm awake".
DAD: "I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier. It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the $50 you asked for."

The little boy sat straight up, smiling.
SON: "Oh, thank you daddy!"

Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

DAD: "Why do you want more money if you already have some?"

SON: "Because I didn't have enough, but now I do.

"Daddy, I have $100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you."

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

Selling Real Estate... Whoa Boy!

As anyone at work would know, I'm not the best seller around. Sometimes I don't even get to make a sale. But there comes a time when you have to realize that the only way to financial freedom is to be a better seller. J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series may not be the BEST WRITTEN books but they're definitely the BEST SELLING books. Willie Revillame's personality and reputation (even his singing) may not be the best, but he sells himself to the crowd better than anyone else that's why he has such a large paycheck. Dell Computers may not be the best computers around (as anyone at my workplace would know) but the way Dell sells it's computers are the best in the US, even I will admit to that.

So now I've finally decided to start selling. Selling Real Estate seems like a great idea since I'm not really good with selling things people don't need. Everyone needs a home. A place to live. A quite peaceful place to retire or raise kids. I sure would like to have one.

So if you're looking for a new home or a rental property you would like to invest in. Give me call. I might just have the perfect home you're looking for. I might even be able to help you find a way to afford it!
Like boss Jed always says, "Don't be shy!"

Blogging VS Network Marketing

A friend on Facebook recently shared with me a way with earning part-time

(You'll have to be logged in to Facebook to view this link:
http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/album.php?aid=2065562&id=1158797942&ref=nf
I put a comment on his album, but he deleted it. I guess he didn't like what I had to say about network marketing. I guess he's just doing it for the money and not to help out people.)

Memories of past experiences trying to make it big with network marketing started flooding my mind.
I recall those times I tried to be successful in DXN, and First Quadrant... I learned selling was just not for me. Plus I didn't like how expensive the products were. It's hard to sell a product you wouldn't want to buy yourself.

You see, I'm not a very good sales man. I'm not a very good evangelist either. So selling and recruiting is just not part of my skill-set right now. This is how network marketing works. Lots of hard work and plenty of guilt on my part since I don't know a lot of rich people, (which are probably the only people who would buy these products.)

In the facebook link above, Global Fusion more or less works this way:

I guess you'll have to sell these:

so you can earn like this:

And the maximum you can earn is just Php1,200,000 per month?!  Very limiting it seems.

If you were a blogger and have Google adsense, You could earn as much as $300,000.00 per month. (That's in US Dollars! That's 13.2 Million pesos!) like these guys: http://bit.ly/N8DFP
That's per month! That's because we all know Google is no push-over company.

All you have to do is write your thoughts in a blog regularly. Some people get good traffic and earnings even by just updating their blogs once a month!

Another thing I don't like about network marketing is that you "need money to earn money." That's just the opposite of the principles in "Rich Dad, Poor Dad." With Google Adsense, you can use a free hosting blog and start make a living. All my blogs are free blogs. I just don't have the capital of PhP8,900 pesos for a "Starter Kit". Then I'll have to sell the products, oh my goodness. So I'm having more success now with Adsense than I did with my past Network Marketing endeavors.

Here's how I did it:
http://vdcaluya.blogspot.com/2010/03/how-i-got-my-first-100-by-blogging.html

What's good about blogging is that you are not asking people to pay you for a product. You are the one being paid by Google by the number of people who view your pages that has Adsense Ads on them. Just like a TV commercial. Your readers will gain something from reading your blog, and you will earn money simply by having ads on your site or blog that people can see along with your content.

A bit complicated? I know. It took me a month of research and I feel I've only touched the tip of the iceberg. But I assure you in the end, the juice is worth squeeze.

Rich dad, Poor dad (Book Review)

I just finished reading Robert Kiyosaki's "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". I've been seeing this book in stores for quite a while. The title never really got me interested enough to buy it.

A few days ago got myself a copy of the book. I wasn't too busy these past few days so I said what the heck, I'll start reading it.

To make it short, I was hooked and I finished reading the book the same day I started reading it.

The book was about the author's principles in getting wealthy...

The biggest reason I didn't want Noynoy to be president.

***Start Watching at 3:19***

In this interview with Senator Aquino (soon to be president), he stated that one of his platforms was to change the current educational system.

EDUCATION
We will overhaul basic education by having universal pre-schooling and strengthening our basic education system to a 12-year cycle.

In short, preschool will be mandatory before going into grade one. And grade school will probably be extended to 7th grade, and High school will be made 5 years. So instead of being able to finish elementary and high school in 10 years, Mr. Aquino here wants to add 2 more years to the already long enough labor of primary education...

Personally, I would've preferred it if he were to shorten the span of Elementary and High School. I feel the majority of the Filipino people suffer from too much expenses in tuition fees, allowances, School Supplies and uniforms. Tons of unnecessary expenses for things our children don't even NEED to learn.

On the personal side, I have 2 kids that will be elementary students during the reign of the next presidency. Having them study for 2 more extra years will be a burden in every aspect imaginable. I'm sure that I won't be the only parent who feels this way.

So if Senator Aquino does win this election, which seems like he has already, I hope this will be one of the first promises he breaks, along with the promise of ending poverty by ending corruption (both being an incurable cancer of society even in wealthy countries, but I'll talk about that some other time.)The sad part is that among all his promises, this extension of formal education seems to be the easiest to pass.

For people who came from wealthy families, this proposal might sound logical, but for the not so wealthy, two more years of high expenses is just more hard work. This also reminds me of the people who let the E-vat pass that was made only to burden the poor and middle class instead of the wealthy. (Also the reason why I didn't vote for Recto.)

So did you know this small fact before you voted for Mr. Aquino?
I hope you're not already regretting your decision.
If you did vote for him when you knew he planned this, shame on you. Try paying for our children's tuition fees and school expenses for 2 years, let's see how you like it much!

Addicted to Weeds... and Zombies!

It started out of curiosity but then the craving started and now I can't stop.

Yes, I confess I'm an addict. I'm addicted to Plants Versus Zombies.

I can't get any work done because of this. Every time I try to get on my computer and try doing some work I can't help but play the game. I start with saying I'll just play one game. Then after 1 game I day I'll just play for 30 minutes. Then after 30 minutes I say I'll just play one more game. An hour and a half later I'm still playing the darn thing! If my earnings for this month goes down I'll definitely uninstall this game... or not. Arggghh!

Are there any Plants Versus Zombies addicts out there? Please help me overcome this addiction.

My 5 Hours Voting Experience

This is my first time to vote for elections. I had myself all prep'd up since last night.

  • I got up at 5am.
  • We got to the school where we were supposed to vote at 6:30.
  • We finally found our names at 7:30 and started falling in line.
  • At 9am the line hasn't moved yet. They were prioritizing the senior citizens, which is probably a good thing.
  • At 10am only 120 people have voted out of 1000 assigned to our precinct cluster.
  • 11am, we finally got into the "waiting area". Imaging falling in line for 4 hours just to get into the waiting area!
  • 11:45 I finally got in and started voting. The Marker gave out too much ink and almost put a hole on my ballot. But all was well when the PCOS machine said "CONGRATULATIONS! ..."
  • 12:00 I finished another line to get indelible ink on my finger. Man, some people won't bother with 5 hours of heat, boredom, and a lot of conflict between the voters and the marshalls who didn't seem like they had any idea what they were doing.

5 HOURS! DARN!
Overall it was a great experience! Reminds me of the enrollment back in college in AUP. Great thing I didn't have work yesterday and today or else I wouldn't have been so patient.

Things learned for elections:
1. Set your whole day for voting.
2. Bring some food and drinks. You'll need it.
3. Bring umbrellas. My wife and bro were burnt under the scorching sun for 4 hours.
4. Have some form of entertainment. A PSP or your cellphone. I was thinking of bringing a guitar.
5. Pray hard for patience. You'll need lots of it.

Who did I vote for? Hmm... I think I'll keep that to myself for now.

So, how was your voting experience?

Top Campaign Jingles Election 2010

Ilang araw nalang eleksyon na po. Here are the top 5 jingles out of personal choice that seem to have a great impact on surveys this last week of the campaign period. In no particular order, these are the 5 that I like the most. It's not necessarily that I would vote for this these people, but I like the song. Pretty catchy if I may say so.

Manong Johnny Theme

Kung may Erap may ginhawa!

Kay Binay gaganda ang buhay.

Bong's Otso-Otso

Pangarap ni Villar

This last one must be the most spoofed jingle of the entire campaign period.
Here's an example. Almost everyone knows this song by now.

3 ways to get 1000 pageviews per day.

Goal for the month: 1000 pageviews per day.

Aside from my brother's Otaku Life Blog, I'm also working on other blogs. My goal this month is get any, or if possible, all of those blogs to reach 1000 page views per day.

What I'm doing:

Social Networks
I just learned recently how friendster, facebook, myspace, and twitter could be powerful tools to gaining blog traffic. We'll see how that goes. I'm often busy with work and I'm still recovering from my Pneumonia. My regular job is killing me.

Blog Commenting
By putting comments to dozens of blogs and adding links of the blogs I'm working on, This is a strategy that worked well with my most profitable blog. So although the other blogs are about different niches, i hope it will have the same effect when it comes to blog traffic.

Offline Campaign
Most people I know are not blogger, just regular people who check their email and read the news everyday on they're computer. So I ask then if I could put some of my blogs as their secondary homepage which will bring in Direct traffic to my blogs. Ofcourse I only recommend the blogs that they like and those that interest them.

Learning Dreamweaver

Since I've decided to make make my living only before this year ends, I've finally got myself to playing with Dreamweaver. It's one of those What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get site building tools or WYSIWYG for short. A lot of bloggers and site developers warn about using WYSIWYG software. Lots of negative comments about it but I didn't really get to figure out which. But since I'm just a beginner in all this, I decided to try it out. After running through the tutorials from TheNewBoston, I realized how complicated and how handy Dreamweaver can become once you get used to it.

Thinking of Woking at home

I'm seriously thinking about giving up my Job and doing work at home. More specifically, making money online. I have experience with that it's just that since I'm only doing it part time, I'm not really earning enough. I've been doing a lot of research, but I'm still not satisfied with the pace it's going. I'm learning too slow, and there's just too much to learn. Here are the options I've found out so far:

1.) A paypal account is a must.
2.) PTC - Pay to click. Where you get paid by clinking on site and viewing it for a few seconds. Although the earnings with this strategy are really small.
3.) Selling stuff online like e-bay. But you'll need actually stuff for that. I don't own much stuff right now.
4.) Monetizing from blogs using affiliates and ads. That takes a few months to build up though.
5.) Skype is also a must for the next options.
6.) Teaching online and tutorials. But you'll need a degree for that, and most of them only want female tutors. How discriminating.
7.) Virtual assistants. This is something I have to look into. I don't know much about it yet so I guess have to do my research.

The point is, if I can do all this at home and earn more than what I actually earn on my job now, it's worth a shot, right? The time you put on to learn all these varies. Some people takes years for them to make an actual living online. Some people learn it immediately by attending expensive seminars. I'm still trying to decide if I want to spend a couple of thousand pesos for a career change. I've been researching how to earn money online for 4 months now, but I'm still not earning enough.

What do you suggest?

Blog ko to!

While unwinding and playing billiards during my lunch break today, I was also brainstorming on how to make more money online through blogging. 2 things occurred to me. First, I realized how rusty I've become at billiards, secondly, I thought about my "Vladimir Caluya" blog. I've been putting a lot of rubbish in it for the sake of SEO and traffic that I almost forgot why I started blogging in the first place. The reason I setup this blog to begin with was to write stuff about myself an my thoughts on certain issues that matter to me. So yes, this is supposed to be a self centered blog featuring Vladimir Caluya and the stuff that goes on around him. So today I started cleaning up the mess I've made the past week. I know this will decrease the people who visit my site but who cares. This is my  blog. I don't even care to write in English anymore. Basta blog ko to!

Release the Kraken!

Clash of the Titans began showing in cinemas this week, but did that most anticipated movie of the season live up to expectation?

I watched it with my wife just yesterday. We've been waiting for it for months. Expectations were high since Sam Worthington, the guy from AVATAR, is the same actor that'll be playing role of Perseus. Also after watching Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, which is loosely based on the story of Perseus, we were wondering if Clash of the Titans would be any better.

Before I give my opinion, here are things that other people have to say about the movie:

"My fear had been that [the film] would be relentlessly, unforgivably bad, but it's only boring." -Tim Brayton

"Three average action sequences aren't enough to save this film from the weak story and bad dialogue. At least 'release the kraken' is my favorite new euphemism." -Jeff Bayer

"It’s a little campy, a little creepy, a little too long and sometimes a bit of a mess. But it all adds up to a welcome dose of old-fashioned b-movie entertainment." - A.O. Scott  (I actually thought the movie was too short.)

"Charmless, ugly and lackluster with a laughably bad script, it's no improvement on the original film and on its own merits is just unfortunate. I'm sure the video game tie-in will be more entertaining than this." -Diva Velez

"It isn’t a train wreck -- a train wreck would be memorable."- David Edelstein (I think what he means is that there wasn't anything really spectacular about the movie.)

"Regard yonder Medusa! She has the body of a snake and the breasts of a centerfold!.." -Mark Ramsey(yes, I think so too. Rarr!)

All comment were taken from posts on http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/clash_of_the_titans_2010/

Anyway, not everyone hated the movie. Zongchips put this comment on youtube, "anyone who said that the original is way better than the remake is either way older or a fred astaire fan... or their busy kissing and holding each other's "kraken" in the cinema and did not paid attention to the movie... RELEASE YOUR KRAKEN AND ILL RELEASE MINE!!!!"

So what do I think?
Well I feel the same way. Percy Jackson was a whole lot more entertaining than this remake. A lot of fans of the original are the ones with the most negative comments. If Simon from American Idol watched it I bet he'll say, "..it was.. forgettable." And I'd agree with him. The movie wasn't worth all the hype.

Do I have anything good to say about the movie?
Absolutely. The actors were great. Liam Neeson makes for a great Zeus. My wife was totally creeped out by Ralph Finnes being Hades, as expected from the same guy who played Voldemort in Harry Potter. The ladies were totally gorgeous, especially the Gorgon Medusa. She was definitely Hot! The CG was also outstanding. I wish they had shown more of the glory of Olympus though. They just showed the outside and the throne room which wasn't much. I also loved the cameo from Bubo, the mechanical owl from the original movie. It was short  but one of the very few things I loved about the movie.

Conclusion
I guess I'll be watching the original movie again. I can't recall most of it because it's been like 20 years since I last saw it. I'm not sure if it's a good or a bad thing, but watching Clash of the Titans really makes you want to watch the original. To conclude I didn't like the movie much, but my wife loved it so maybe it wasn't too bad afterall.

P.S.
I read some rumors that there was a slight earthquake in California right after the scene when Zeus said "release the Kraken!" Haha!

How i got My first $100 by blogging

This week I just got my first $100 from Google and celebrated it with a Junior Whooper from Burger King. I've started blogging a few months ago but haven't been very consistent about it until very recently. I've learned how to monetize, get more traffic and post contents as often as I can. I've also taught all this to my brother Chev who's having a great time blogging. In a few more months I bet he'll start making more money online than I am since he spends more time online than I do. This is how I did it.

I did lots of research online and I've broke it to 3 simple steps:

Need Content
This is the first thing you need to have to make money through blogging. You'll need to have online content. A website, a blog, a picture gallery, anything that you can put online. A popular phrase among blogger is "content is king". This should be for most people in the Philippines who are active online and have their own Facebook or Friendster account. We spend a lot of time updating our pitures, our Walls and daily activities. If you start to build your own website or create an online blog. It'll be same as doing it with facebook. Plus you'll get a chance to make money from it someday. There are several ways you can setup a blog online. Some of them are even free like blogspot. So if you're active online, do it with a blog instead.

Get Traffic
So you have an online blog. What now? Well, like any publication you'll need readers. People won't start going to you blog just because you set it up. you'll need to advertise. make your self known. This is where your social network sites would come in handy. Get all your 500+ friends in friendster and facebook to go to your site and visit your blog. Get them to subscribe to your feedburner and they'll get regular email from you everytime you put up something new in your website. Personally I ask my customers at work to visit my site. It probably isn't the most popular way to promote a site but it works for me. For the mean time atleast. http://www.blogtrafficexchange.com/blog/ give you juicy tips how to increase your readership and keep them. What's a blog for if nobody visits them right?

Monetize
Doing my reasearch in blogging made me aware of a lot of blog jargon like Monetize. This means making money from your blog. There are tons of ways to earn from your blog but the most popular one is Ad Publishing. Like your daily newspaper that has ads on every page, a blog can also earn money by putting up ads on them. I do it through my Google Adsense. Don't be fooled if you think it'll be a piece of cake. You'll actually need a lot of hard work and tough research. I still have a long way to go myself. Getting my first pay is just the beginning. Some people actually earn $1500, $4000, and the maximum payout that adsense can actually give out per month is $10,000!

Now these are just the basics. There's a lot more into blogging than what I've written here. I'm actually still learning stuff myself. Between my 8 hour job and raising my kids and being a good husband, blogging is just one of the many things I have to juggle in between. I plan to be a blogger full-time and make my earnings enough to make a living. Believe me a lot of people are making lots of money online. I just proved that myself when I got my first $100! So if your thinking of getting a part-time job or changing careers, blogging might just be thing for you. You never know until you try.

A 500 Pesos Cofee Mug

On my latest adventure to the wonderful world of SM Department store, I found this unusual item. A 500 pesos Coffee mug. No, it's not worth 500 pesos. It's just the design. The actual price is only 49 Pesos. I gave it to my mother-in-law who lives with us. She's very fond of coffee in the morning and she's got very excited when we gave her this mug. Coffee also helps her calm down especially when taking care of our two kulit kids. Hehehe!

Facebook and twitter

Everyone has a facebook account, and twitter is becoming an essential for serious bloggers. So I have no choice but to join the borg collective. I recently started out my facebook and twitter acount. I've been having doubts wether to get involved in facebook and twitter. I've never been the type to do things that are popular. So now I've finally got my Facebook account and Twitter. But on my first day I get this message.
So I'm off to a great start I suppose.

My facebook is also attracting relatives and and old friends as well. I'm having a bit of a problem with   navigating through the site but I'm sure I'll get a hang on it sooner or later. So just feel free to invite me to facebook and  your twitter if you have one. Hehehe!

Duplicate yourself

I just read an email today from Mr. Bo Sanchez about Duplicating yourself to be more successful. I thought to myself, duplicating is easier said than done. I can't recall how many times I've tried. Maybe I was just doing it the wrong way.

Anyway I finally got my bro started on blogging. See he works in an Internet Shop owned by our parents so most of his time is spent on the internet. His work is perfect for blogging I thought. So I taught him the basics.. That was just last week. Now I think his blogs look better than mine and the content seems more interesting than mine!

Check out his blogs. He's already managing 3 in just 1 week!

http://laschev.blogspot.com/ = his novel blog
http://finchev.blogspot.com/ = his Otaku blog
http://weisschev.blogspot.com/ = his personal blog

I always thought of blogging as an RPG game. Writing content is like fighting monsters to level up, and all the other blogging tools are weapons you can use to level up faster. My bro is a genius when it comes to RPG video games. I should've expected him to get the hang of this faster than I did when I first started blogging. The way he's going, he'll have more content and a better looking blog than I do. Geez.. Talk about beating your own mentor. Lol!

My bro's secret identity... don't tell anyone okay?

I wish I could write like this

The following is an excerpt from a blog of a friend. Although she decided to take on a different career, I'm still big fan of her writing. I wish I could write like this..

FROM: http://thespacebetweentwoboxes.blogspot.com/

"At first I thought, okay this is really wrong. How can you categorize or schedule the elements of grief? How can you even name the elements of grief? It's different for everyone. But then the good Wikipedia article on Ross stated that these stages can actually happen in any order. It makes sense."

"Some of us are strong enough to accept reality as soon as loss looms its miserable head, but also fickle enough to wake up the next morning and wish that everything was just a nightmare. Some of us bargain first--would you stay if I changed? or just give me time and I'll figure things out."

"I'm tired of watching the movies of my age. I'm tired of the stereotypical storylines. These movies today, they bank on either special effects or on the hype, and I'm just thirsty for some really good and un-"Hollywoodized" movies.
So I figured I'd take a look back and check out the movie "greats"-- before we became a "look-at-me" society, before we got too hooked up on the leading lady's figure, before film makers cared too much about their target audiences."

Sigh... someday my blog posts will magically become that good! Hehehe!

Percy Jackson: Clash of the Teen Titans

We were supposed to watch Alice in Wonderland, but then my wife and I were debating wether to watch a cheezy John Lloyd movie, or a Disney's Alice in 3D land. I don't know where our argument lead to but we ended up watching Percy Jackson. I wasn't too excited about it at first. I thought it'll be another cheap movie. But whoa, was I so wrong.

The movie was an exciting adventure. And since I was a fan of greek and roman mythology myself the plot of the movie did not disappoint me at all. Aside from being a mythology fan I was also a James Bond fan, so having Pierce Brosnan in the movie (I had no idea he would be in it) was more than a plus!

Overall Percy Jackson is one of the best I've seen this year. The humor, the adventure, and the concept of teenage demigods in modern times is a great combination. People might hate me for saying this, but I thought that Percy Jackson is way, way better than any Potter movie I've seen.

Funny Dell Customer Service Call

This is a really funny customer service call I found in Youtube. I work in Teletech under a Dell account and I get this kind of customer all the time. LOL! I deal with these kind of calls differently though.

NOTE: This call was recorded and uploaded to Youtube April 2007 before I even started working for a DELL account and even before Teletech NOva had a DELL account.

LOL again!

Pinoy Hangaroo Re-post

I didn't expect people to actually like this game so much. I'm re-posting it again then.

TELETECH FIRE

The other day, my shift started 12 midnight. Not too many people were calling. It was 5 minutes into the shift when I started to smell a burning odor. It smelled like burnt electronics so the first place I looked was the back of my computer, there was nothing there. I looked under my desk, everything looked fine. But I couldn't just ignore a burning odor like that so I stood up from my seat and called out to my supervisor and told her I smelled something burning. In a few minutes it wasn't just me anymore. The entire floor began noticing it. Some were already taking calls. Then smoke began filling the building. There was no fire in sight though.
I was waiting for my boss to tell us what to do but when I looked she was on her way out the door. So much for leadership. I told the rest of my team to just logout and get out of the building. The other teams were still waiting for instructions from the manager, who by the way wouldn't be in until 3am. It seems Teletech doesn't have an SOP for fire emergencies. Anyway me and my team were on our way out the door when the rest of the floor finally decided they didn't want to die and started leaving as well. Most of us even brought out our headsets. We'd have to pay for it if got wet, geez. I also noticed there was no fire alarm or sprinklers that came on. Teletech was apparently more concerned about their computers getting wet than the safety of the building and its employees. Everyone was finally out. We work on the first floor but we noticed the people from the second floor were not going out. We stayed outside for about an hour when the guard finally came out and told us there was no fire, just some electronic equipment got burnt. We were told to go upstairs and stay at the training rooms and await further instructions.
The Team Leads were useless. The manager finally arrived around 2am and told us we could go back to work ow and that the building is safe. When we entered we could still smell the burnt odor coupled with a strong annoying scent of air freshner. I think I became unconcious (maybe I just fell asleep) after a few minutes of breathing the toxic air. After the shift I was too tired to try to look for the source of the fire. I wish my company had a better policy with emergency situations. I mean, what if there was a real fire, or what if an earthquake hits us? Tsk tsk...

Sasuke vs Kakashi

Sasuke VS Kakashi

Oh man, this is like the fight I've been waiting for. Master VS Student. NARUTO manga has finally reached the point of pitting the two coolest characters in the story.

Background:

Sasuke just finished battling DANZO who was the new HOKAGE and Sasuke won and killed DANZO off. Kakashi, who was on his way to stop SAKURA from trying to kill SASUKE on her own, has finally caught up only to find her almost being killed by SASUKE. KAKASHI manages to stop SASUKE in the last moment and decides it is his responsibility as SASUKE's mentor to stop his student. This reminded KAKASHI of the battle of MASTER vs STUDENT, The 3rd HOKAGE vs OROCHIMARU and he commented "..now I know how the SANDAIME(3rd Hokage) felt." Sasuke retorted with a smirk and said,"Then I guess.. your fate will be the same as his.."
NOTE: The 3rd Hokage died in the battle against OROCHIMARU.

Assessment:

+ Sasuke has already improved his Sharingan surpassing that of Itachi's. And if we recall the encounter of KAKASHI vs ITACHI, it was KAKASHI who was confined to the hospital and didn't get to do much to fight back.
+ Kakashi only has 1 eye for a Sharingan and since he isn't really an Uchiha, even with Mangekyo I'm not sure he can match SASUKE's eye techniques which were transferred to him from ITACHI before dying.
+ Sasuke has already surpassed OROCHIMARU and if we recall KAKASHI was never able to defeat OROCHIMARU.
+ KAKASHI's experience gives him a bit of advantage and since SASUKE just came from a difficult battle KAKASHI might be able to use that to his advantage.
+ Lastly, KAKASHI has already died once in the series but was luckily revived thanks to NARUTO's efforts. So it wouldn't be surprising if the author decides that the best way for KAKSHI to die is by the hands of his own student. Like the fate of The 3rd Hokage and Jiraiya.

This development got me so excited I couldn't help but make a post about it. Whatever the result might be I'm sure we're in for a great battle.

Going to church

I confess, it's been a while since I've been to church, and I could say that I feel trully blessed. I always feel happy and sad at the same time whenever I reminice about d' ole days when I was still active at church. *sniff*
The pastor's message was about Daniel and the lions' den. Daniel, an elderly prophet of God, has just been appointed by King Darius as the "prime minister" of his great kingdom. The other ministers were jealous of him and tried to find him fault, but he had none. His performance and wisdom is undisputable, and his morality is unquestionable. The guy was spotless, but unfortunately very predictable. He prayed 3 times a day facing his homeland, the holy land of Jerusalem. So the only way they could get him in trouble was to create a law that is against Daniel's lifestyle and faith.
They tricked the King into signing a decree that for 30 days everyone must pray to no god other than the King. Anyone who disobeys will be thrown to the lion's den. He realized he made a huge mistake in signing the decree when he found out that Daniel, his trusted prime minister, was going to be sent to the lions for praying to his GOD. "Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee." King Darius couldn't sleep on the night Daniel was sent the lions. He fasted and declined any form of entertainment.
In the morning King Darius went to see the lion's den. To his astonishment, Daniel was still there, unscath. The king rejoiced and made new decrees. He commanded that the men who plotted against Daniel be sent to the lions instead together with their children and their families. (Ugh..The King's wrath!)
"I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end. 27He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions." -King Darius.

It never ceases to amaze me how even the most common Bible stories could be interpreted by people in so many different ways. The pastor that saturday was really good. He explained how Daniel upheld his faith and earned the respect of his superiors at the same time. He then asked If the policy of our jobs got in the ways of our faith, would we be able to do the same thing Daniel did?

Being an SDA, having the fridays and saturdays off might be the best thing that happened to me this year. I pray I stay on that time slot forever.. So as long as I'm in this sched, I promised myself to go to church as often as possible.

How 'bout you? What would you do if were in Daniel's sandals? Hehehe....

What's the best way to blog?

I'm currently working on several blog sites right now. Blogspot, Wordpress, and now Tumblr.. having no background in digital design and web churvah, I'd have to rely on existing templates and themes.
I'm more familiar with Blogspot since I've been using it for a long time and have created and maintained blogs for other people using blogspot.
Wordpress seems to be more popular with other bloggers and I've heard of it's flexibility but I have no idea how that's done. I only keep one because it gets throught the office firewall. Hehehe..
Now I'm experimenting with Tumblr.. I only started today and I can see it's goinf to be fun playing with it. My internet connection at home sucks. 2mbps feels like working on a pentium I compared to the office's whopping 6mbps.
So, how can I make tumblr look a bit like my blogspot account. vdcaluya.blogspot.com with a sidebar for links and widgets? Any tips for an amateur newbie?

I miss going to work... (plastic!) hehe..

I haven't been absent from work for a very long time. I kinda got used to it, actually. So getting sick missing work for 3 days made me feel kinda bad. Was it my fault I got skipped meals? Was it my fault that I drink water directly from the tap? Was it my fault I take cold baths in the middle of the night? Was it my fault that I ate beef stew from questionable origin? Was it? Was it?! I know you probably have no idea what I'm talking about, but the last three days was probably not the best way to start off the year. I was vomiting, having LBM, and abdominal pain which hurt so much and made me wish that I could just rip my insides.
I'm fine now. Thanks to the people who visited and donated relief goods like diatabs and such. hehe..
Staying idle at home for 3 days made me realize how busy I've been. It felt great. It wasn't just a physical healing, I was also an emotional, spiritual, holistic recovery. But I still missed work a bit... Just a bit.. Afterall there's a great feeling that comes after you fix a customer's Bluescreen of Death issue and the customer's hearty thanks that comes after you saved all the family photos they've taken last christmas. Aww...
So did I miss going to work? Hmmm... For that reason, maybe just a bit.. Ehehe.

Unlimited Blade Works (Movie) -update!

So I just finished Fate/Stay Night game yesterday. I wouldn't have finished it if hadn't I gone sick and got stuck at home for 2 days. FSN would probably be the first and last clickathon game I would play in my lifetime. I felt great finishing the game and knowing the entire story but I swear, never again!

Anyway, my favorite scenario in the game which is Unlimited Blade Works would be showing this month in Japan cinemas. I'd have to wait for a few more months for a DVD rip and people willing to sub it before I get to watch it though, but it thrills me all the same.

Here's the newest trailer:

HANDBOOK 2010

My first post for 2010! Ah, blogging... It's a tougher job than I thought. I admire those people who can blog everyday inspite of their busy lifestyle. Kudos to you bloggers out there who update their blogs daily!

Anyway, one of my newyear's resolution is to have a more positive outlook in life than I did 2009. So I want to share the following which my boss sent to my email yesterday. Very nice.

HANDBOOK 2010

13. Don't overdo. Keep your limits.
14. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
